HFC ’97 Rhein Wins 2010 Spring OPL
May 10 2010 - Club Staff
Hurricane FC ’97 went through a lot of change during the winter break period.  Gone was the only coach the girls had played for since their first competitive season, and they were put under new direction for the first time ever in December.  They responded in a huge way by winning the 2010 Spring OPL Championship.  John Rhein took over the group in December and has done a fantastic job in getting the group together by creating a great atmosphere for learning and development as evident by their recent results.  Since the change, the group has posed 2 undefeated tournament championships and recently added an undefeated season to win the 2010 Spring OPL league championship.  Congratulations to the girls on their hard work, resolve, and recent accomplishments.  The 97’s will be back in action attempting to claim their 3rd consecutive State Championship when preliminary rounds begin May 22nd in OKC.  Great job ladies on your OPL Crown and good luck in bringing home a 3rd straight state title!!

May 10 2010 - Club Staff
On Tuesday, May 4th, the HFC 99 girls captured the league championship with a 7-1 record with 36 goals for and only 6 against, ensuring a berth into OPL next fall.  Just days later on May 8th, the girls took the field in the semis of President's Cup with a staggering 16 goals for and 0 against in their 3 bracket play games.  They came out victorious 2-0 against a very hot WSA 99 Red team.  Next they faced OFC 99 East White in the finals where the Hurricane girls dominated possession while clanking the post 4 times, however were unable to capitalize.  Watching their dreams of another championship fading away, down 1-0 with 10 minutes left, the girls kicked it into high gear scoring 2 goals within a 7 minute span.  A tremendous team effort and ending to a fantastic season.  Congratulations ladies for winning the league and coveted President's Cup trophy!

Apr 13 2010 - Club Staff
HFC 97 Rhein stayed true to form this past weekend @ the Thunder Cup.  Since Coach John Rhein took over the coaching duties for the group they have been perfect.  HFC 97 has now competed in 2 tournaments as well as a portion of their spring OPL schedule with nothing but W’s.  More impressive; since John took the team they have never trailed in any match.  Last weekend the girls played in the U14 Gold division and breezed through pool play netting 7 while only allowing 2 both coming after HFC had established dominance in each match.  The model of never trailing this year changed in the final when an injury depleted HFC lineup took on a spirited CVFC 96 group.  HFC controlled tempo and possession the entire first half, but saw chance after chance in front of the net hit posts and cross bars.  After going to half time with a 0-0 score line to show for their dominant effort HFC saw CVFC get their only shot on goal from a long clearance resulting in a 1v1 scoring opportunity minutes into the second half.  They now trailed for the first time in 2010.  The adversity lasted only a few minutes as they rallied back dominating the last 25 minutes of play coming away with 2 goals on countless opportunities to keep their perfect record with coach Rhein in tact and winning their 2nd tournament together in as many tries with a 2-1 victory.  Congrats on yet another dominating performance.  HFC 97 Rhein will be back in OPL action for the next couple of weeks before traveling to KC to face the top competition region II has to offer as they gear up for their run at a 3rd consecutive state championship

HFC 97 Rhein Wins Emerald Cup Gold
Apr 02 2010 - Club Staff
March 28th Overland Park, KS
In its first tournament outing under the direction of new coach John Rhein, HFC 97 went undefeated to win the 2010 Emerald Cup at the new Overland Park Soccer Complex.  HFC Rhein bested their competition in pool play netting 7 and only allowing 1 beating KC Force, Avalon, and Missouri’s #2 team Futura Academy on their way to the final.  In the final HFC met up with a well rested KC Metro who is the top team in Kansas.  The girls fought through a short bench and key injuries to earn a 1-0 victory against the well rested and very solid Dynamo’s.  Congratulations coach Rhein and HFC 97 on winning your first event together.  The girls are currently in 1st place in OPL and will be back in action at Thunder Cup and Kansas City’s Mothers Day Classic in May preparing for a run at their 3rd consecutive State Cup Crown.

Mar 29 2010 - Club Staff
The HFC 99 girls brought home the Championship trophy from the Papa Johns Midwest Invitational in Wichita, Kansas this past weekend.  The girls started off strong with a 4-0 win over the Wichita Shockers.  The 2nd game the girls out shot their opponents and dominated the Newton Lady Storm, but fell on the short end 2-1.  This meant the girls placed 2nd from their bracket and would play against the 1st place team in other bracket, Air Capital. The girls came out on fire scoring quickly and maintained the lead throughout with tough defense and won 4-2.  This meant the girls would see a rematch with Newton Lady Storm.  Once again they dominated possession and shots and came out 2-1 winners in a hard fought, physical match.   Congratulations HFC 99 Girls and Coach Koeppel!
